Good Neutral color
July 10, 2014
I have used 8N Sesame several times. This is a good neutral, dark blonde - not too golden & not too ashy. My hair tends to look brassy so I mix this with a level 9NA & 20 Volume developer to get a good dark blonde base color.

7- is not blonde
May 16, 2014
far from blonde not even a dark blonde and they denied me a refund because I told them I striped my hair prior to application had virgin roots and magically i turned it dark brown with my magic powers. I had a light blonde to start with and colored accordingly to the main redken website. who knew i have special magic powers to turn blonde into a dark brown using a blonde haircolor :0

Started off with a color fix to strip my hair, I had virgin roots hmmm it turned into a level 3 or 4. This is not a blonde hair color. 7-nw not blonde. no hot roots and i used a 40 developer either it seems like someone mixed the liquids, oh wait did i mention they accept returns if "unopened"

shocking color
May 14, 2014
I have a lot of experience coloring my own hair and I always went to sally's and tried all the brands and received similar results. I striped my hair first before I applied the color to get the tone out. I sometimes do this and my hair was never damaged like how it is now. I ordered the 7ng and 7nw mixed them used a 40 for my roots and a 20 for the rest. I have done this multiple times with different brands with my hair color from sally's. I always had a medium blonde not too dark and not too light. I am now a brunette using the Redken hair color. My hair color looks horrible. I thought I screwed it up but I didn't I double checked and my hair should not have turned brown. My hair is also fried which never happened before. The mixed colors had the same base and it was gold and warm mixed and now it looks like I have dark brown hair. Now I have to wait a while until my hair can be colored and fixed again.

Great Color
February 24, 2014
I recently switched hair color brands. I like the Redken Color Gel Permanent Haircolor because it gives my hair more color variation. I also like this new color that I bought the Platinum Ice. I wanted to go a little darker blonde so I would not have to do as much upkeep on my color but I did not want to go too dark. This color seems to be working very well for me. Also, my hairdresser recommended Redken. I would highly recommend this product.

Did the job!
December 28, 2013
My hair had light brown reddish highlights to it and typically I like my hair to be medium to dark golden brown. I used this color (Chicory) and it took a great deal of red out of my hair and also deepened the brown color which is what I wanted. Also, I find this Redken product to be very kind to my hair --leaves it relatively soft.

I need to buy 5 bottles of 10NW macadamia Nut Redken color gels permanent hair color. You-all have helped me before to buy fresh hair color from Redken but in a different color, on Ebay. I'd like to purchase this color in bottles labeled by the factory with a 6-digit inventory number printed on the side of the bottle in black---and the third digit is a letter, either a K or an L. Do you have this product in stock as described?

I am 90% gray and when young (quite a while ago), my hair color was medium brunette. What two colors of redken color gels should I use to get a med. brown with some red but not orange? I have very pale skin and green eyes so medium hair color seems to be the best with some warmth. I was using 6 NG and 7NG with a bit of 5BR but results showed some orange color. The 6NG was very dark. Thanks
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on May 15, 2014

Answer:
You can try 7NG+6NG without 5BR. You'll need also 6% developer (20 vol)

I have honey blonde hair. I want to use 4rv cabernet . What developer should I use to achieve this hair color. Also what shampoo and conditioner is best to use?
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on February 4, 2014

Answer:
With 4rv your hair will be dark red violet. If you want this result you'll need to use 10 vol. developer. After coloring process you can use Color Extend shampoo and conditioner.

By Carolyn from grammybma@aol.com on February 4, 2014
I've seen photos/ads from a salon of a brunette with obvious ( Redken) red highlights/streaks, obviously separately applied, as you'd use Loreal's "touch on highlights" which do not come in red. Would you know if you sell a product that I can use to accomplish this at home? I see that you show several reds, but it's hard to tell which might create the effect I'm seeking. It may be one you have marked as out of stock. It's definitely not a light red.
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on February 12, 2014

Answer:
I doubt that you can achieve this effect at home. To this it is needed to bleach some streaks and then tone in selected color.

By Linda from Montana on February 8, 2013
I am concerned about the chemicals that are in this Redken hair color. Can I have a list of the ingredients for this product?
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on January 3, 2014

Answer:
The list of ingredients is different in depend on the color. You can ask your question about the shadow that you are intrested at www.redken.com

By Susan from Southlake tx on July 9, 2012
I want to switch to redken hair color from the store-bought I have been using for years in hopes it will retain my color and not fade so fast. I presently use a light brown 5n and add some light auburn to it . It is a wella product from Sally's Beauty Supply. I have medium brown hair color-- not real dark but not light brown. I color my own hair as I am very gray and need to touch up roots every 3 weeks. Can't afford to go to salon that often. I would like assistance in determining what Redken color gel to use. Can you help? Thanks. Susan
By Linda from Tracy, CA on July 10, 2012

Answer:
Hi Susan,
I also have medium brown hair and I use the redken mango and suede. It gives me a brown color with red highlights. I mix equal amounts of color to touch up my roots and on occasion I will color all of my hair to bring it back to the color I like since after time in the sun it starts to fade. You will need to buy developer with this hair color. I would suggest going to a salon and have them dye your hair once with the redken to see what color you like. After that ask what colors they used, the ratio of color then order it on your own and do it yourself. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Linda

By Candy from Indiana on April 16, 2012

1:1 ratio. That's two ounces of hair color, 2 ounces developer. I mix mine in a bowl and apply with a brush. You can use a bottle and brush.
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on January 3, 2014

Answer:
For achieving the desired result of Redken Color Gels you need to use the correct volume of developer along with the correct ratio of hair color.
For use with Redken Color Gels Haircolor is Redken Color Gels Developer.
For blond shades, Redken suggests mixing a 1:2 ratio.
For others shades, Redken suggests mixing a 1:1 ratio.

Are these Gels supposed to be liquid and relatively pourable? I purchased 6NA and 7N from another retailer and they are very thick and will not pour out of the container. I have some other colors that are thinner consistency and will easily pour into the measuring cup. Is this how these two colors are supposed to be, or are these Gels possibly too old? Do you think they are OK to use? Thanks for any advice!
By Jamie from Batavia, IL on January 13, 2014

Answer:
Yes they are liquid and should pour easily......

The Redken Color Gels Permanent Conditioning Haircolor has liquid consistency. I would not use the product has a different consistency. It may mean that the product is damaged or was improperly stored

How to cancel orange/red hues in hair colored to natural dark blonde with Redken color gels?
By Cheryl from New York, NY on April 24, 2012

Answer:
Put the Blue Back ~
One of the ways to correct your orange color is by applying additional hair dye, but this time by using a color with an ash base. Ash colors are blue- or purple-tinted and can neutralize the orange tones you’d rather hide. You’ll want to use ash-based shades in the future because if your hair turned orange once, it can do it again.
OR
Try a Toner ~
Hair that turns orange after a coloring process may benefit from applying a hair color toner. Toners are semi-permanent hair color that puts blue or green pigments back on your hair to make it look less orange. Your may want to use toner if your hair has some damage because semi-permanent hair color doesn’t penetrate your hair shaft like permanent hair color does. The only downside is that toners won’t last as long -- after several weeks, you may start to notice your hair color returning to a slight orange tone again.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

Answer:
My advice is to seek out professional help. Color correction can be difficult and damaging to the hair. Once they correct the color you can get the formula from the stylist and resume coloring it yourself.
By Cathy from Rolling Prairie, IN on April 30, 2012

Answer:
When you’re already blond, you don’t want a toner that is going to make you look even more blond. You want a toner that will bring down those bright orange or yellow tones and create a softer blond look. So pick a toner that has the word “light” in the title, like “light blond,” “light ash” or even “lightest” blond or ash.

How do you determine your natural color of hair without the Redken Swatch Book? I have virgin hair and when I study the chart at sleekhair, it indicates that the hairdresser first determines the natural color of your hair using this book of swatches. The thing I find confusing is the example of the formulation given for a client whose natural hair color has been determined as a LIGHT BLONDE Level 5 with a target color of MEDIUM BLONDE using a Level 7 shade. How, without a swatch book, can I determine what Level I am actually starting with if my natural color hovers between a dark blonde and Very light brown?? When I look at the Colour gels my present natural color would fall between a 6 and 7 (for dark blonde to light brown hair) . The more I study the colour wheel on the chart the more confused I become because the Levels used to judge the natural hair don't appear to correspond to the 10 Levels of colour you have to select from. Could someone please tell me what I'm missing in this equation? I would like to go 1 or maybe 2 shades lighter with a cooler natural tone since I do have a tendency towards red and yellow as my hair is lifted and I don't want that. Thank you and I hope I haven't confused everyone as much as I've already confused myself!

Answer:
Honestly, the best thing to do is go to a hairdresser for the first use an let them decide what you should use - AND see if you like it. Once they give you a recommendation, you can do it on your own and deviate as you feel comfortable and learn.

I did this on my brunette hair and have gone up and down a level. Love the color gels, as you get lots of dimension.

By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on January 4, 2014

Answer:

Which developer should I use with this product?

By madelyn gomez from homestead, fl on March 20, 2012

Answer:
any
By Geraldine from Scotch plains, NJ on March 20, 2012

Answer:
I use the Redkin Color Gels Developer sold by Sleekhair. If you are looking to deposit color or darken your existing color, use a volume 10 or 20. To lighten an existing color, use the 30 or 40 volume developer. I use 40 volume to add color to highlights. I don't have grey hair but I've taught my sister how to use Color Gels and she uses a volume 10 and gets great coverage of her grey. Be sure to leave the product on for about 30 minutes to get nice results. Color lasts a long time-I dye my brown hair red and color does not fade like products in the drug store.

Answer:
I use the Redken developer. (30 volume).
By DeeAnn from Simi Valley, Ca. on March 20, 2012

Answer:
You will have the best results using the Redken color gels creme developer. I have thick predominantly grey hair and use 20 Volume strength . In the past I tried using other generic 20 vol developers but have not had the same results.

Answer:
I used the Redken Color Gels Emulsified Developer - 30 Volume. I bought it from SleekHair.
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on January 3, 2014

Answer:
Redken Color Gels Emulsified Developer.
For blond shades, Redken suggests mixing a 1:2 ratio.
For others shades, Redken suggests mixing a 1:1 ratio.
Different developers work differently:
10 - for natural hair if you want to make your hair darker
20 - for grey natural hair if you want to make your hair darker or for natural hair if you want make your hair lighter up to 2 levels
30 - for natural hair if you want to make your hair lighter up to 3 levels
40 - for natural hair if you want to make your hair lighter up to 4 levels.
