    Love it!
    October 21, 2014
Clear color shine is terrific. I use the clear right after having my hair colored, it seals in the color so fading is less. It leaves a nice shine and also leaves the hair conditioned.
    Pros:
Lots of shine without damage to the hair.
    Cons:
You do need heat to help penetrate into the hair. I have a tabletop hood dryer.

    Salon Quality at Home
    March 19, 2014
If you follow instructions and do the proper heat treatment you can get a salon quality glaze at a fraction of the price at home. I have the clear and a couple of the colored cellophane glazes and they all come out great. It last about 4 weeks for me and I wash my hair everyday.

It is a very good product for people that do not want to use permanent hair coloring. Even though it is not a permanent hair dye system and does fade with washing it actually covers gray hair really well and lasts for a relative good time. Moreover it gives hair a special shine. I have been using it for a while and have nothing to complain. On the contrary, I am loving it!

    October 28, 2013
Very unhappy was my hair during the Two or Three years in which I had to do without this wonderful product. Even using it right away after chemically straightening my hair there is no danger of mishaps. No ammonia, not harsh on your locks! Wonderful shine, manageability and grey coverage. I am a happy woman. Me and my hair. Thank you Sebastian for coming back as strong as ever.

    Moderately effective
    September 22, 2013
I think this works but I was not blown away by the results....I had such great expectations. I am going to continue treatments.
    Cons:
Difficult to use because the treatment needs heat applied to it for one-half hour....not so easy to do in a home treatment.

    Great color and gray coverage
    February 1, 2013
I love this product! I've tried other products that made my hair dry and brittle. My hair is about 40% gray. This product colored my gray and my hair feels healthy and it's shiny. This product is a healthy hair alternative, for those who need color, but don't want the harsh side effects of permanent hair color. By the way, I used the deep brunette. I will definitely buy this product again.
    Pros:
Excellent gray coverage, easy application, and great value.
    Cons:
I would like to see more color options.

    SHINE ON!
    January 10, 2013
Everybody Raves at How my Hair Shines! For years I've used Sebastian Cellophane Products on my past-my-waist-long hair, and before I had much gray, I just used the clear to keep my hair shiny and way more manageable, as it is the ultimate long-lasting hair care. Their line are demi's, no peroxide, no nasty chemicals. Because my hair is so long, it's imperative I keep it in good condition and not abuse it, and this is the product that does that even with all the high altitude sun, the color doesn't change and go brassy. Yes, I do color my greying roots with the colored cellophanes, but after they've had a few treatments, they tend to hold the color and so I do the clear on the ends to keep them from getting much darker than the roots-chin section. This is the product that lets me do that! I do full color on all the hair to about my jawline, then begin mixing in the clear to the end of my hair. And because of the way it keeps the hair shaft covered, I don't need to flat iron my hair for serious, serious shine from root to tip! Pros: The shine is just amazing, everyone comments on how shiny my hair is, and I love having it so manageable.
    Pros:
    The SHINE
    Cons:
Hate to wait for it to ship, I always forget to order it.

    Great Product (Honey Blonde)
    January 22, 2012
I've been using Sebastian cellophane for many years. And although the original formula was better on my hair, the new formula is still very good. I try to use it (clear or honey blonde) once every four weeks or so. But once I went without it for about two months, and in the meantime, I tried John Frieda Salon Glaze. It barely did an "okay" job. Then several weeks later, i finally got another tube of the Sebastian cellophane. Boy do i notice a difference when i use it - my hair is gorgeous (natural shine, smooth strands (each strand seems to be coated with a smooth texture), beautiful body, lovely color). I love love love my hair!! How i use it: 1. Apply it to dry hair or wet hair, making sure to cover all strands and the ends of hair. It seems that applying it to dry hair makes it permeate hair more, but you'll probably use the product up faster this way; wet hair allows you to spread it over the hair easier, thereby using less of it. 2. Place a plastic baggie over hair and sit under heat for 15-20 min. (Without heat, let baggie sit on hair for a longer time to allow body heat from head to "warm" the hair. If you do it this way, try to tuck hair ends under other parts of hair by rolling it into a french twist-type shape) 3. Apply a good conditioner (e.g., Matrix Biolage conditioning balm) over the hair while it still has the cellophane in it. (I think the cool temperature of the conditioner in contrast to the warm temp of the hair results in the cellophane being "sealed", kind of like what happens when you rinse your hair in cold water to seal the cuticle. Put the plastic baggie back on the hair and sit (with or without heat) for another 10 minutes or more. I usually do heat for about 5-10 min and then let sit without heat for another 5-10 min. But, you'll probably come up with your own way of doing this. 4. Wash, condition and style hair like you normally do.
    Pros:
Shiny hair Healthy looking, feeling hair Smoothing protection on each hair strand
    Cons:
Messiness of application (color can stain nearby furniture, clothing, hands, etc).

I have been using Sebastian Cellophanes Shine Clear for a number of weeks. I blow dry my hair with the cellophane in it and then leave it in my hair for the rest of the day. My hair is usually thick, frizzy, and curly when I leave the shine clear in my hair is smooth and straight. Will it damage my hair to leave the cellophanes in every day?
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 10, 2014

    Answer:
You can use this product every 6-8 weeks, not oftener.
If you don't want to get damage hair, you should abide by the rules of applying procedure.
Apply the treatment on clean, towel-dry hair. Wrap hair in plastic cap and heat them in 20 minutes with dryer.
Don't apply the treatment on the roots of hair.
Leave hair to cool in 5-10 minutes
Wash your hair and dry them.

    How to do? Usage, instruction..

By Maureen from San Antonio, TX on December 22, 2011

    Answer:
Sebastian Cellophanes is extremely easy to use. You can use it straight from the tube or you can mix colors if you want a different shade. I used the Red Brunette one and find that the red is very subtle. When I first used this, I used the Red Brunette with a few squirts of the Red Red shade and it came out very auburn and lovely. You can experiment to find a shade you like best, then just jot down the ratios you used. Right now I use just Red Brunette from the tube and brush it on. The best method is prepare your skin around the ears and hairline with a thin line of vaseline because this stuff WILL stain (you can get the stains out but it takes some scrubbing. If I get a stain on my skin it usually lasts maybe 2 or 3 good scrubbings but the scalp stains do tend to last a bit longer since you can't really scrub the scalp without also scrubbing the hair in the way.) After you have protected your skin, apply the Cellophanes with a brush to target the hair best, and when all is saturated wrap the hair in plastic or wear a cap and sit under the dryer for about 20-30 minutes to let the hair's cuticle open up and absorb the color. The color will wash out a little with each shampoo, with the first couple of shampoos being the most noticeable. The color is vibrant and the hair becomes very shiny. If you have gray hair, it will cover it but bear in mind that white or gray hair can be color resistant so you may need more time under the dryer. The white/grays will also come out a lighter shade, but I find that the lighter parts create a more natural effect. I use this at home for root touch ups or when I want a little punch of color. For an individual, it lasts quite a while because it doesn't take a lot of product to achieve a great color effect.

    Answer:
I love using Sebastian clear cellophane right after I color my hair. It seals in the color and makes my hair look lustrous and healthy. People at the gym where I work out and colleagues at work always comment on how beautiful, shiny and healthy my hair is. My secret is definitely the cellophane. I shampoo the color out of my hair and rinse it well. Then I air dry it until its almost dry. I apply the clear cellophane with a hair coloring brush in sections just like I would hair color. I start at the root and evenly spread it to the ends. Then I use a plastic reusable shower cap to cover my hair and blow dry iall sides for about 15-20 minutes. After I take the shower cap off, I let my hair cool for about 5 minutes and rinse it out. I shampoo and condition it again and then dry and style it as usual. It's a long process but completely worth the time I put into my hair.
By Sharon from Trumbull, CT on December 24, 2011

    Answer:
I've had gloss (glazing) treatments applied in a professional salon for many years, and having observed the methods that seem most effective, this is how I apply the product at home: first, be sure the hair is combed thru and tangle free after it's shampooed - the product will cover more of each strand better. Next, towel dry by pressing your combed hair gently between the towel - like a sandwich - and flip towel over to a drier side as you work around sections of the hair (more important for longer locks). This preparation prevents re-tangled hair before you are ready to apply the product.
Now, it's good to have a rounded, shallow glass bowl (or plastic mixing bowl for hair color that can be purchased at beauty supply stores) to squeeze the product into - then, using a natural bristle "basting" brush (think BBQ marinating brush that u can buy in the kitchen section of a grocery store), dip into the bowl to saturate the bristles, and literally brush onto small sections of the hair at a time. Just take a 1" section at a time, flatten between your fingers, and starting from the top, about 1/8 away from the scalp ( or further away if there is any irritation or hair loss issues on the scalp), brush the gloss down thru the hair, like your painting window trim. Don't skimp - use plenty of gloss, dipping into your "handy" bowl often as you work section to section. You can lay a completed section up over the tip of your head while getting to the under layers, then gently flipping back over all covered hair to the opposite side, then work the next section. It's a little fussy, but you get the hang of it after awhile and it's well worth it to take your time and get good coverage of every strand. Once all the hair is covered, it really works best if you wrap your head with a plastic processing cap (super cheap if you buy packs at a time), and then use heat to get the hair cutical to open up and take in the product. Remember, this is a "deposit only" product; so you have to get your hair to "take it in" and hold the color or clear glazing properties. There are home versions of "sit under" hair dryers available at various discount stores (avg cost $45) that are well worth getting, not only for hair color, but for deep conditioning treatments at home.
Oh, and after rinsing the product out, seal the hair shaft/cuticle with the coldest water you can stand in the shower. Better yet, have one bottle of spring water handy and douse the hair with it after your done getting all the product out. Results are remarkably better using a final rinse of purified, cold water. Enjoy!

I have beautiful coloured blonde hair that some people actually think think t i am a natural blonde from California, thanks to my colourist. However I used clear cellphone years ago and hit gave me a gorgeous sheen.
Now I see Sebastien has colours. Should I stick to a clear cellophane or take a blond colour cellophane treatment. Will a blond colour treatment alter the shade of my gorgeous blond that I have now?
    WHich one should I choose?
By Letty from Houston on November 2, 2012

    Answer:
Hi Linda, hopefully this helps! Pearl blonde (purple shade) is for ash blonde tones! Honey blonde is more for golden blonde! So you basically have a choice between warm and cool shades! It would not lift your color or darken it! If u have cool tones in your hair and choose honey blonde, u might see warmth golden tones in your hair! If you're still uncertain, then go with the clear! You'll still end up with a beautiful shiny hair! :)

By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 10, 2014

By Dianne Hiett from La Verne, Ca on February 8, 2012
I'm interested in the Deep Brunette cellophane. I wonder if it has any red in it. I have a hard time keeping the
red out of my hair so I don't want anything w/red in it.

    Thanks,
    Dianne

    Answer:
Regarding the Deep Brunette Cellophane: I do not see any red in it when I use it. Just a nice deep brown color. I love it!
By Sharon from CT on February 8, 2012

    Answer:
Red tones seem to be the biggest issue for many of us "do it your self" peeps out there. Especially for those of us who lighten our hair and therefore need to deal with those base red pigments that we all have. In your case, being a brunette, a depost only shade will not bring out any inherent red tones from within your hair shaft, but I can't speak to the effects of a product like this on darker hair, except to say that: 1st, these toners are not permanent in terms of actually altering the core of your current haircolor, and only provide a short term results. 2nd: that doesn't mean you won't see a reddish overcast from this product - it really depends on the ingrediants.
I can note that in my attempt to create a neutral blonde effect, I mixed equal parts of Pearl and Honey Blonde in a mixing bowl, and applied it with a natural Bristol brush ( best coverage doing it that way). Anyway, my highlights grabbed the warmer tones from the Honey more so than the neutralizing tones that the Pearl (purple color). So, when in doubt, go with a Sebastian color that is cooler vs warmer. Also note that with deposit only color or toners, the final result will not be as dimensional as with traditional hair color (a bit flat, so to speak). The best part for me was better combability and a nice overall gloss sheen that lasted for about 2 weeks, washing hair every morning (I have oily hair/scalp and it's very fine and porous).

Years ago when using the original ColourShines the colors I used most frequently were Coffee Bean, Mahogany, Walnut, and Clear. I loved them all- every few months my hairdresser would change it up a bit and use a different blend for a subtle but beautiful change.
Which 2-3 current ColourShine shades would be the closest match and appropriate for blended use on dark brown hair?
By M from Colorado Springs, CO on March 11, 2013

    Answer:
Hi, I went through the color name change as well, and used similar colors. I now use the Deep Brunette, Golden Brunette, Red Brunette, Gold Red and Clear and mix 'em up as I'm in the mood. There really isn't an exact match color-for-color, but you'll be able to mix the same beautiful colors and shine. The Deep Brunette just takes a touch, or it can outweigh what you mix with it, so if you only want to get 2 or 3, I'd go with the Golden Brunette, Red Brunette and clear.... I know you'll love it.

I'm extremely confused on what this product does. My friend said she used Sebastian Cellophanes in her hair, but is this product haircolor? Does it add color to your hair? Can somebody show me how to use it as well? Thank you sooo much!
By Natalie from Leamington Spa, Warwickshire on December 7, 2011

    Answer:
Hi we use this product alot in the salon. It is a protein based colour which has no amonia or peroxide in it. Basically its a gloss for the hair. It is a heat activated colour. You squeexe it straight out of the tube into the mixing bowl or bottle, then it goes all over the hair straight through, its like a jelly when it comes out. Then you put a plastic cap ove rthe hair and then put under the hood dryer for 40mins to process. It stains alot so make sure on the red and darker colours that you do not cover the client in it!!!
It enhances your natural colour and lasts 6-12 weeks dependant on how the hair takes to it. It should not leave a regrowth. The key thing here is that it will not turn a brunette dark/just enhance your colour you already have adding lots of shine - pearl blonde and clear are great over highlights to give high shine and adds condition to the hair. Deep brunette are good on the darker clients etc see colour shade chart....make sure you use a salon hood dryer over it otherwise it will not work as it is a heat activated product!

    Hope that helps.

    Answer:
Yes, this product affects the color (tint) of your hair, unless you use the Clear color. Just follow the instructions on the bottle (after washing hair, apply product over hair, cover hair in plastic bag, let it sit on hair for x number of minutes (sit under dryer for stronger or faster effect), rinse or wash and then condition your hair like you normally do after washing it). See also the reviews written by other users of the product.
It adds a strength, smoothness, and shine that is great!
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 10, 2014

    Answer:
It is not a color. It is special treatment for shine and hue for your hair.
HOW TO USE: Apply the treatment on clean, towel-dry hair. Wrap hair in plastic cap and heat them in 20 minutes with dryer.
Don't apply the treatment on the roots of hair.
Leave hair to cool in 5-10 minutes
Wash your hair and dry them.
