Love how gorgeous Satin Hair Color makes my long curly hair look!
    April 13, 2016
I have been using Satin Hair Color in between salon appointments for several years now and its not easy to do. I am prematurely grey (white) on top and have long curly hair. I sometimes use G5 Light Golden Brown or G4 Light Copper Brown depending on how light ive become since my last touch up.It leaves my hair in great condition looking absolutely gorgeous and me very happy!
    Pros:
Gentle Amazing color covers grey well

    Very Dissapointing!
    January 3, 2016
I tried this because of all of the 5 star reviews & the fact that it is extra gentle & deep conditions. The light Ash Blonde came out more like a copper blonde, very orange! The exact opposite of what i wanted. I searched for reviews specific to the Ash Blonde color & found some similar comments for the ash blonde shades. I purchased the Ash Blonde ( a slightly darker color) but decided instead to go back to my favorite line Alfaparf. Still trying to eliminate the brassy tones! Very disappointing!
    Pros:
    No Damage
    Cons:
Ash Blonde was more like COPPER Blonde

I Love It and have been using it for over 10 years
    October 9, 2015
I love this hair dye and have been using it for over 10 years now. I love that you can buy different colors of hair dye and create your own hair color if you like. And for root touch ups I have been doing this: Put 1 tablespoon hair dye, and 2 tablespoons developer in a plastic hair dye mixing bowl and mix together with your touch up brush (You can purchase the bowls your nearest hair supply store). I also use the root touch up brushes and they come in a small size and a larger size, and you can use the other end to part your hair while adding hair dye for a root only touch up which can be purchased at any hair supply store. I now touch my hair up 2 times between a full hair dye. If your messy like me, I recommend getting the plastic hair bib to protect your clothes. It's recommended to put the hair dye on roots only for the first 15 minutes, and put the remaining hair dye on the ends for the last 15 minutes. I hope you love your hair color treatment as much as I do. You can also use the developer to help those nasty grey hairs to hold the dye color by taking your root brush and brush on a little of the developer on the hard to dye areas (normally the grey hair) and leave on for 5 minutes, then you can either prep for a root touch up or a full hair dye.
    Pros:
This stuff does not smell like the other hair dyes you buy in the grocery stores. You can mix as little or as much hair dye as you need unlike the other hair dyes and you can buy different colors and mix up your own hair color if you like.
    Cons:
There are no cons to me, either you like it or you don't and I LOVE this product.

Satin is my go-to color brand!
    October 5, 2015
Sooo many compliments from random people as well as my hair stylist who cuts mt hair. But better than that, the formula is wonderful, doesnt have that awful smell, and especially does not leave hair feeling like hay after color. It feels soft when washing even the 1st time and thereafter. I LOVE all satin colors and Mocha is one of my favs. Ive probably used Mocha violet the most -- and i have never been disappointed.
    Pros:
After coloring leaves hair still silky and soft unlike many other brands

    Great for thick, coarse hair.
    June 18, 2015
This is my favorite brand of hair color. It covers grey well and slowly fades to the natural color I had as a teenager. I won't let my hairdresser use any other brand (I purchase online and bring it to him).

    AS GOOD AS SALON!
    February 24, 2015
I always went to the salon to dye my hair until money got tight. So I started looking into how to dye my hair at home while not ruining it with the cheap store dyes. I've been using this brand for three years now and it is wonderful! My hair is healthy and shiny! I love this stuff!

Improves texture, Covers gray and Great Colors!
    January 24, 2015
Though hard to find a retailer, I've been using it for years! Superior to other salon brands, Satin hair color actually helps to improve the look and feel of my hair. Being a natural redhead, I appreciate that there is little to no fading, covers the gray, and yet stays multi-dimensional. Love, love , love it!
    Pros:
Wide variety of shades Improves hair texture (smoothing) Little to no fade Multi-dimensional color

    12HLA - Amazing product!
    November 17, 2014
Great as a high lift single process color that minimizes brassy tones in levels below 6. Best thing about this product is that it can be also used as a toner on pre-lightened or highlighted hair. Pay careful attention to the timing - you can eliminate unwanted warm tones, or leave it on long enough to produces an amazing silver tone! I use the latter method to enhance clients who are graying and want to keep their gray hair looking its most spectacular.
    Pros:
easy to use, economical, leaves hair shiny and healthy
    Cons:
    None

I used 8G and 7CI-- My hair turned to the color of 5mr and 6mr, what do you suggest????
My hair is naturally 50% white and have been using Loreal blondes
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 4, 2014

    Answer:
For achieving the desired result of Satin Color you need to use the correct volume of developer along with the correct ratio of hair color.
    Mixing ratio is 1:2.
    Different developers work differently:
10 - for natural hair if you want to make your hair darker
20 - for grey natural hair if you want to make your hair darker or for natural hair if you want make your hair lighter up to 2 levels
30 - for natural hair if you want to make your hair lighter up to 3 levels
40 - for natural hair if you want to make your hair lighter up to 4 levels.

By Taylor from Tacoma, WA on August 29, 2014
I currently use the 5N -10 minute color hair color for my roots, with a 20 volume. Is the Satin hair color similar? Whats the ratio for mixing?
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on June 18, 2015

    Answer:
Satin color is a permanent color. Permanent colors have processing time about 35-45 minutes.

I relaxed my hair every two months. Can I use satin hair color permanent? or do you have semi permanent. I don't want to use paroxide.
Please let me know the semi-peramannte color and with what I have to mix. Thak you.
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 4, 2014

    Answer:
If you have grey hair or if you want to make your hair lighter you'll need a permanent color. It will more damage for hair than with demi-color naturally. You can choose demi-color in other brand.
And anyway you'll need to mix the color with developer.

There is no term like "light brown" or "dark brown" in coloristic science. You will need to know color level.
You can see color swatch online

I have medium cool skin with hazel eyes . My hazel eyes turn every color from brown with yellow specks to green , lavender , etc. I stripped the color out of my hair . It now is a med. Orange . I don't want it to dark. A med. Brown. I got a satin mocha 4 Brown. Is that to dark ? I have gray around the root area. Should I go with another color ? Also how should I mix my color . And how long should I leave it on ?

What shade should I get if my hair is black with lots of grays around the sides, and i want a soft reddish brown and black, but no orange sides?
By Lisa from Rockford, IL on December 29, 2011

    Answer:
I have medium brown hair that has barely perceptable red tones. I use levels 5 and 6. I get the 6 in ash and the 5 in (N) natural and I mix them together. (1:1 or 1:2 depending on the time of year) If I used just the natural, my hair would be too red. If I use just the ash, there is too much of a greenish hue. Mixing the two seems to tone down the red and look more like my natural color. I mix 6 and 7 in the summer for a lighter summer look.

    Answer:
Unfortunately, I, too, have a great deal of gray. I found that mixing 5GC and 6GC in equal parts with the CG developer works perfectly! It provides me with the warm browns and reddish undertones I love. The gray hairs actually absorb the color and give the hair natural reddish highlights.
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 4, 2014

    Answer:
You should determine your natural level of hair color. After that you choose the color that you want.
In depend of the difference of your natural hair and desired color you choose nessesary developer (20 vol. or higher).
You should choose the shadows with mark "V" (violet pigment = red+blue). Blue pigments will help to reduce orange hues, red pigments will add reddish hue.

hows black violet satin dye on blonde hair
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on August 12, 2014

    Answer:
It will make blonde hair very dark - almost black. But if your hair is damaged, very porous, black color will wash out and after 2-3 weeks it can be more brown than black

I have colored my hair last with the ION brand from Sally's #6IR.6.6 (it's sort of like a red wine). My hair looks dark when I'm inside, but you can see the red out in the sunlight. It's alright, but I think I wanna change the color back to a honey blonde or caramel. Can a Satin 7 Mocha/blonde change the color, or at least start changing it to a more dramatic color? What level of developer can I use? By the way, the color from Sally I used was permanent. Thanks for your answer.

    Answer:
The color can't lighten colored hair. You'll need a bleach for that.

Hello there, my natural hair is black and very dark. I bought the 6MV but I don't see the red. Used it with the grey cover toner. Do I need to bleach it first?
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on October 16, 2015

    Answer:
Satin color is a permanent color, it has effect warms undertones after coloring, If you put 6MV on natural dark brown hair you will get orange-res hues on 4-5 level hair depends on chosen developer.

I love Satin hair color. I have used this product for many years and have always been satisfied with the results.
Lately, I've been trying for that baby beige color for doing the roots of my hair. I find it looks more natural for me as a blond to have the roots a little darker than the rest, and that baby beige looks perfect with a light blond. I haven't quite found the correct blend of colors to achieve that color though. Any suggestions

How many parts of the color do I mix with the developer and how do I leave this in my hair?
By phelps from Calif on February 9, 2012

    Answer:
You mix equal amounts....but if you are using a darker color, ex. Light brown or darker, and trying to cover more gray, use a low volumn peroxide so as not o lift your natural color. try to only apply to new growth as not to have color build up on your ends

I mix 1 part developer to 1 part color. I leave the color on for 25 min. When doing a touch up I do roots first ,leaving that on for 10 min b/4 finishing the rest of the hair, leaving it on for 25 min total.(that includes the first 10 min) I color my hair every 3-4 months. If you just want to do touch up every 6 weeks or so you won't need to do your whole head just roots. I'd leave that on for 15 min. My hair is med brown. Hope this helps

I use one part color to two parts developer. When I do my roots I leave it in for 45 minutes and it covers well. This product is very good and I like the feel of my hair afterward. It leaves hair feeling silky and shiny.

1 oz color with 2 oz developer for no longer than 45 minutes max on new growth and 5 min on ends
By Millie from Memphis, Tn. on February 10, 2012

    Answer:
Depends if you have any gray hair involved. I use 1 part color and 1 part developer as that will color the gray for sure. I would only leave it on for 45 minutes, NO LONGER. I apply to roots ONLY then will comb out to ends the last 5 minutes of time left NO LONGER. Rinse with warm water and then shampoo. First using this product NEVER colored before, 1part color and 2 parts developer leave on 20 minutes. Then do roots for another 20-25 min, rinse then shampoo. I found the MOCHA shades give incredible sheen to hair.
By Lisa from Rockford, IL on February 10, 2012

    Answer:
I usually mix the product 1:1. For example, 2 oz of developer and 2 oz of color. I leave in for about 35-40 minutes. I apply hair oil or heavy conditioner on the ends of my bangs before I apply the color. I reduces the chance of frizz/damage. I leave the oil/conditioner in until it is time to rinse out the hair color.
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on January 4, 2014

    Answer:
Mix 1 part color and 2 parts developer, Don't mix 1:1 - it damage your hair!
