no mess color fix/toner for light hair

By Blue from USA on February 10, 2012
When I first used this I had lighter hair (level 9) and it worked wonderfully to tone out the excess warmth without making my hair turn silver (lighter hair MAY get silvery, if applied very generously and left on for the longest time). Now my hair is darker at the roots (level 7 to 8) because I'm covering gray and consequently, I have more orange to tone out. This product alone doesn't seem to work as well on darker hair, but adding just a small amount of any of the Fudge Paintbox blue shades will tone out excess gold/orange beautifully. The only cons about this product are 1] it can dry my hair quite a bit (but not everyone experiences this, so it could just be me), 2] it fades pretty quickly (as ALL toners do, unfortunately), and 3], I think it's overpriced. Still, as far as I know it's the only product of its kind that's decent quality and available to the public, and it's simple to use. As another reviewer said: make sure you use plenty and leave it on for the full time, under a hairdryer (with a shower cap on) if possible.Pros:
No mixing, no messCons:
Tends to dry my hair out, fades quickly, overpricedI would recommend this item to a friend.
Beautiful color

I use this purely as hair color, not as a toner or adjuster. Applied over my bleached hair, it leaves it a beautiful shimmery silver/periwinkle - very flattering and attention-getting,Pros:

Easy to apply

Great toner for unwanted brassy gold pigment

By Janice from Pinebluff, NC on April 26, 2011
No matter what I tried or who colored/highlighted my medium-dark blond hair it becomes orange and yellow. This drove me nuts considering I am not a dummy when it comes to hair pigment, tone, balancing and also that I have been successfully cutting and coloring my hair for 20 years and unsuccessfully the last 10 years. My instinct told me it was the poor quality of water here in the southern states I would end up going to a local salon (slim pickins depending on where I lived) to fix the mess I thought I created. Earlier I was using over the counter colors and highlights and believed the salon's success of re-coloring, then re-highlighting was attributed to the product quality, until the brassy orange and yellow returned within days. Now Im thinking I was missing a salon secret product or technique only the pros know about and considered my hair changed the way it takes color and/or lightens since hair changes drastically as we age. A few years later and in new neighorhood, I went to a top-notch, reputable salon and chose the light blond color of my youth for a special trip to see my brother who is living over seas. Within days my hair turned brassy yellow! Uugh! I didn't realize how awful it looked until I saw the pictures and videos taken during the trip. That was October 2010. Since then, I lopped off the brassy damaged hair as it grew out long enough to use goldwell highlights which still imparted darlker, overly gold tones. Accidentily I found Fudge Paintbox Whiter Shade of Pale Toner and Creative Mixerand decided to try it. It works!!! I am in full control of my hair's final outcome and very happy with the results. BTW, don't use it sparingly as it may not take and don't leave on more than 40 minutes.
Pros:
No mixing. No mess. Just squeeze, distribute, and comb onto damp clean hair, wash out and it's done.Cons:
It's pricy. Should cost $8 to $10 max. Not available in most stores.I would recommend this item to a friend.
Awesome!
