I used 9V Shades EQ Cream on my bleached hair {paleyellow}. I expected a light shadow and reduce yellow hue. But I got pink strands -see photo

wrong color - 07WN Chai Tea
July 16, 2014
I bought this color thinking that the "N" signifying neutral would counteract the brassiness from my highlights. It actually has warmth in it, so the effect was not what I was looking for. However, the product itself was easy to apply and made my hair very soft and glossy.

CLEAR - Great, but I like the gloss better than the cream
July 16, 2014
This did a nice job and was very easy to apply, but I didn't think it made my hair as glossy and soft as the original Shades has done.

Great product, perfect color!
April 30, 2014
I have always loved Redken products and color. I ordered the Shades EQ Cream Hair Color in 03RR Chocolate Cherry. I absolutely LOVE the color. It's rich and everything I wanted in hair color. I get a ton of compliments on it. I even had a friend ask me to do her hair with the color because she loved it so much. Highly recommend this brand, color line and the color itself!

If you have a lighter blonde hair color in the 9 range, this is a really pretty warm based blonde. My hair was really soft and had lots of dimension.

Love
January 3, 2014
I use this on my roots where gray is only. I tried it on the rest of my hair but it is a little more drying than the regular eq shades. But fabulous for gray. So i put this on roots, then use eq shades on rest of hair in same level
Pros:
Easy to mix and use Great on grey
Cons:
Can be a little more drying if used all over hair

I used this to actually foil in highlights then used 6N on the rest of my hair. It turned out beautifully! Ive been practicing to try and save money with the highlights and although it took a little time, it gave me the dimension I was looking for. Without the lift or bleach or damage.
Pros:
Easy to use and mix No damage to hair Shiny especially when mixed with the clear

beautiful shine
September 23, 2013
I have used Redken's shades before but when I mixed clear with Garnet Sand, it came out better than ever. The shine lasted for at least a month and the color was so pretty and rich!
Pros:
Shine and rich color
Cons:
need to use the 1/2 clear1/2 color so my hair won't get too dark.

Pretty good
December 17, 2012
I bought the EQ processing solution thinking it was to be used to mix with the color. I found out it is only to add shine and that I needed to use the 10 volume cream developer too. My roots didn't come out really well but they don't come out well when I use the permanent Redken color either. All and all I would say it is better for my hair, so I will keep using it until I get it right. I think if I put a shower cap on the color might grab the roots better and maybe leaving on 40 to 45 min. would be better too. It can't hurt because the color is not harsh and it is demi permanent.
Pros:
Not harsh on hair.
Cons:
Color needs to grab the roots better.

Very Dark
August 22, 2012
Used Iced Gold Shades EQ Cream on My Bleached Hair {paleyellow}. I expected a dark golden blonde. I got light golden brown!! I hade to remove it and apply another shade. Shades Will be 2 shades darker on bleached porious hair . I used 1:1 Color + Clear shades cream , and it turned out great.
Pros:
Color grabbed good on white ends. Made Hair shiny , healthy. Mininal fadeing of color after 1 month.
Cons:
Choose 2 shades lighter than you want. If you choose the wrong shade you have to remove it With Color Fix .

Leaves your hair soft and shiny but...
April 6, 2012
I bought Redken EQ Cream in shades, 03 NA (dark ash brown), and 06 NA (light ash brown). I combined about 2/3 of 06 NA and 1/3 of 03 NA to make a level 5. My hair is naturally a neutral medium brown, and I had went to hair dresser who did some "highlights" but didn't leave the bleach long enough in my hair, and she left me with orange/brassy hair. She refused to fix it and called it "gold" which was inevitable in my dark hair. Granted, that I am not Asian with black thick hair...but whatever. Anyhow, some spots were yellow blonde and others where just plain orange! Anyhow, on to reviewing the color. People have complemented me on how great "ash" cool tones look on me. A lot of hairstylists personally don't like "Ash," and won't do it. This is why I decided to try it myself. Overall I am extremely satisfied with the quality and color of this dye. However, a few words of precaution. Timing is essential, make sure you don't exceed 20 minutes because it's going to get too dark. But also leave it long enough... These ash colors are literally blue, so be careful when placing it over yellow blonde hair, because if you don't leave it long enough, you hair is going to look green. I suggest that if your hair is pale yellow, to either stick to a neutral shade or a gold one, otherwise it's going to end in disaster. It covers orange just fine. I recommend these colors for people with orange/brassy hair with a medium to dark brown base hair color, who are looking to neutralize orange tones and add a cool tone. The shade is beautiful, shiny, professional and natural looking. Much higher quality than any drug store brands, and it shows. I am still interested in adding one of the EQ glosses over it to add more shine and more dimension. Hope this review helps!
Pros:
Natural Looking Shiny Doesn't look Blotchy Nice color Excellent Coverage
Cons:
Time processing is critical Cream is thick so it makes it hard to work faster

How do you apply it to your own hair. I'm going to mix 2N and 4N (1/2 tube of each).. What other supplies do I need?

By Amy Kemp from Oak Point, TX on May 6, 2014
My friend told me about this product. I have never dyed my hair and have natural blonde streaks. Unfortunately my blondes are beginning to turn gray! I was told that this product would cover only the grays. How does this work an ddo I need another product to mix with it?
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on May 12, 2014

Answer:
Redken Shades EQ Cream Hair Color is non permanent color and gives not very good cover gray hair. But you can try.
Obviously it color all your hair, not only gray, the process you describe isn't possible.
You'll need mix the color with Redken Cream 20 vol. developer.

By Cindy from Nashville, TN on May 6, 2014
I'm tired of paying salon prices to color my hair.

My salon uses (60g) 05WB & (10g) 05BR. How many grams in each tube? Do I need a cream developer to mix with Redken EQ hair color?

Picture of this color below.
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on May 12, 2014

Answer:
In tube is 60 g. of the color. You'll need mix the color with Redken developer that will match it
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on August 14, 2014

Answer:
You'll need a 10 volume Pro-oxide Cream Developer if you want to use Redken Shades EQ Cream Hair Color, and Redken Shades EQ Processing Solution if you want to use Redken's Shades EQ Color Gloss.

i am 47 yr old with grey at hair line and i would like to do my own shades eq cream color. medium brunette that can no longer afford the q 3wk $100 salon visit. can you suggest base colors to start with? I was thinking 7g honeycomb for roots and 07wn or 6wm for overall coverage. salon has been adding some light red color occasionally but i am indifferent as to whether or not I continue that
By MAIIA from San Jose, CA on June 20, 2014

Answer:
For best coverage of grey hair is using of permanent hair color. You can try this non-permanent color (shadows with the mark N) but you have to realize it can be not covered all grey hair

By Joyce from Philadelphia on February 5, 2014
I currently use Shades EQ color gloss in walnut, but need more gray coverage. Can anyone recommend a color that is close to this in the Plus? I do not see walnut offered. Also, please tell me what developer to use. Thank you!

I currently use color fusions equal 7BC and 7CR. I would like to use the color EQ shades for the rest of my hair with the EQ gloss developer when only doing roots. I know I used equal parts of 7CB spicestone and another color but cant remember the other. I am thinking it was 7C does that sound right or could you recommend a second color to mix it with?

By Pamela from Lisle, IL on April 18, 2014
I use Redken Cover Fusion 9NG and Redken Pro-oxide 20 volume creme developer. I'd like to use a glossing product, at least the last 5 or 10 minutes of processing. Redken recommends 10 volume for the Shades EQ Cream line - but would it be ok to use this cream with the 20 volume developer I already have?
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on April 29, 2014

Answer:
Cover Fusion is permanent color and 20 vol. developer is needed if you have gray hair or want to make your hair lighter.
Redken Shades EQ Cream Hair Color is non permanent color and needs 10 vol. developer.

By Pamela from Lisle, IL on April 18, 2014
I use Cover Fusion 9NG and 20 volume cream developer. I would like to try the EQ Cream in clear to add gloss/more shine. Can I mix Shade EQ Cream (in clear) with the Cover Fusion and is it ok to use 20 volume (I already have) - how imperative to follow guideline of 10 volume cream developer?
By Maiia from San Jose, CA on April 29, 2014

Answer:
you can try to use 20 vol. developer (mix it 50:50 with the water), but there is risk.

By Donna Webb from Murfreesboro, TN on August 7, 2012
