Great for blonds
This shampoo is sulfate free and great for blonds. It neutralizes overly golden tones and isn't as drying as other toning shampoos I've tried. I leave it on for about 3- 5 minutes and it leaves my highlighted hair as bright as when I first got my hair done. The only trouble is that the effects don't last through a regular shampoo. Some people can use it once a week or once every two weeks and that's enough, but that doesn't work for me. I have to use it every time, otherwise the gold comes right back. So I use a demi permanent toner instead because it lasts 15-20 shampoos. When the effects of the toner begin to wear off, then I use this shampoo until I get a chance to tone again. It really does work well and for seriously golden tones, you can leave it on longer. But be careful, if you leave it on too long, it can turn your hair too ashy (gray) or purple. In which case, you have to use a clarifying shampoo a couple of times to wash the purple shampoo out, just fyi. For a temporary color effect, Color Endure works well and I definitely recommend it. However, if you want longer lasting results, try using a violet demi permanent toner instead.

This is one of my favorite toning shampoos I have tried so far. It has just enough purple and no funny smells.

I love this shampoo for my blonde hair. Personally I think it is one of the stronger if not the strongest purple shampoo out there. Since its primary purpose for me is toning, I shampoo my hair with another shampoo then put this in and leave it in as long as I can. It is sulfate free and I have seen people say it doesn't cleanse well and iould say this is somewhat true but it is very moisturizing .my hair always feels soft when I rinse it out which is not something I take for granted with sulfate free shampoos. Go for it and try my method if it is too moisturizing.
ProsStrong bluish purple Sulfate free
ConsNot the best cleanser

Definitely Tones
This shampoo is great with toning. The only reason that i didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't leave hair feeling very soft.

This is definitely some of the better toning shampoo I've used. It doesn't dry your hair out like most. The reason why I didn't give it the full 5 stars is because it''s a purple shampoo that doesn't have blue (ash, silver) tones it in. It is strictly purple so it takes a full week of washes or so to do the job. If you're looking for something to tone in one wash from what I've experienced that won't happen. I think of it more as an every wash purple(violet) shampoo (or until its become desired color, then every other wash).
ProsDoesn't dry out!

Does this contain sodium lurethal sulfate? Which formula is this? New or old? The listed ingredients contain SLS yet other site with this product do not. Please check the ingredients list for accuracy.

Joico changed their formula on this old favorite. The new formula is sulfate free but there are several bad reviews for it's toning ability. I wanted to make sure that I'm getting the old formula in the purple bottle (as shown in the picture) and not the new formula in the red bottle before I order. Could you confirm please. Thank you.

Can this shampoo be used on natural blonde hair not just colored hair?
As I don't have natural blonde hair, I'm not entirely sure. But I can guess and say that since its virgin hair, which I'm assuming you mean by "natural" it wouldn't pick up as much of the violet. So for natural hair, its going to make any "yellow" less yellow and make it look more ash blonde. So whether you can or can not use it is not the question, its whether it will be as effective on natural hair. I can tell you what it does for my hair though. My hair is white and it turns my hair a bit violet after using. I don't use it every shampoo- just about once a week. It masks any brassy tones in my hair to make it seem more ash blonde. Hope that helps.

I have been allowing my gray hair to grow in for 4 to 5 months. a portion of my hair is faded copper brown from my previous hair dye unlike the roots(plus some) which are silver. would Color Endure Violet Shampoo be a wise choice for my hair which is not completely gray?
Hello, It has been my experience with Joico Color Endure Violet shampoo that it only tones the brassiness down you sometimes get with lightening darker hair or toning a brighter grey / white hair down to a more muted subtle shade. It will not change the color, only tone your present color. It does work beautifully for that purpose. I use all the Joico K PAC products and my hair is the healthiest, strongest and shiniest it has ever been. Big fan!
