Excellent for gray and chemically sensitive users
I switched to this from Goldwell Topchic Elumenated permanent color because the smell was so toxic and my hair was thinning. ColorInsider uses low levels of MEA (Monoethanolamina) as an alkaline agent instead of ammonia. Instead of PPD, it uses toluene2,5 diamine for pigment. Matrix ColorInsider seems very non-toxic and much healthier. My hair seems to be thickening since I switched. There is no smell. It covers gray very well. The 5N looks very natural, without brassiness. It does not seem to fade. There is no reason to ever use an ammonia-based hair color. This is just as good as Goldwell Topchic (if not better), and it is very gentle and mild. I use 20 volume (6%) developer, but I will experiment with using 10 volume (3%) to see if it still colors gray well. I discovered this product thanks to the great in-depth review by organic hair guru Melanie Nickels, to whom I am super grateful. She says this line has a heavy pigment load, which is good for gray. She says you should NOT apply this to damp hair. She prefers Oway as the least toxic line, but ColorInsider appears to be her second favorite and is easier to use and get. (Oway requires heat.)
Prosno ammonia, no PPD, low MEA, no heat required
Consstill requires peroxide

I bought more than one tube of these at one time. If I would have known that they ALL would come damaged I would of NEVER bought them. I mean these colors are not cheap. The 1 color I used despite the leaking was Dark Blonde / Gold copper and I liked it o.k. Could have been darker.. I may return to buy another. I noticed I'm not the only one complaining about packaging. I mean I can see 1 coming damaged threw shipping, but to be slit up the bottom?? C'mon... PROTECT your pack ageing better, or else you may lose customers.

I have been coloring my hair regularly for over 20 years mostly to cover my gray. I try to keep to my original hair color and this product does just that! It makes my hair look healthy and it has a wonderful shine. I recommend Matrix Color Insider.
ProsThe color looks natural and it helps my hair look healthy.
ConsOther than having gray hair, none!

Awesome ammonia free, permanent hair color!
I have had a hard time finding a nice, rich, dark warm brown without having a lot of red or a yellowish/green undertones until I came across Matrix Colorinsider's dark warm mocha brown and dark warm neutral brown shades. I mixed the shades together along with the 10 vol oil cream developer and I received a beautiful, rich color that perfectly matched the swatches; not too dark (I used Joico in the past and I felt that my hair always came out darker than expected). Not only did I receive my desired color, my hair feels so healthy and is so shiny. If this color harmed my hair, the damage was minimal. The only complaint I have is the smell of the product, but the smell is very light and not overbearing. I highly recommend this product!

What's the difference between Matrix Color Insider and SoColor? (I have colored my hair for years with SoColor (dark blond and light brown) and also with a professional stylist. I think the color numbers are 6 and 7 (6N? and 7N?). Anyway, I'm happy with that but what is better or equal to Color Insider? Thank you.

I need some help on choosing the correct color for my hair. I included before and after pictures. I was blonde with highlights and wanted to change my hair color to brown. I went to a salon and my hair looks more red than brown. I tried the purple shampoo and an ash toner and still too red/orange. Should I go with the 6M – light brown mocha or 7N dark blonde neutral and add a couple of drops of red gold corrector plus. I don’t want my hair to be too dark, more like a medium brown, but noticeable that it is brown. Not gold, orange or red, just brown. Please let me know if either of these would work or if you suggest anything else. Thank you.

Hello, I was thinking of purchasing the 6M - light brown mocha, in hopes of removing the red/gold out of my hair. I was blonde (first picture) went to a salon because I wanted to go to a natural brown hair color (medium) not too dark not too light. And my hair looks for red/gold than brown, especially on top. Two pictures added. Please help me pick the right color so I can dye my hair and continue to use the same color. Please let me know if the color I chose is the best option or if there is a better one. Thank you.

if i want to use 5rr to highlight the hair still do i need to keep color for 35 mnts
t is not a good idea to use permanent color like this over highlighted hair - you can serious damage your hair. You can use non-permanent (semi or demi) color for reduce unwanted hues.

i have my hair painted with the 4rv my hair was blonde and within a few days my hair color is washing out it has been a week since i have painted it what developer would i need to get because i had my hair painted at a salon
Bleached hair is very porous and any color will be washed very quickly. First of all you'll need demi or semi permanent color, not permanent, because permanent color damage your bleached hair. Secondly you'll need to use special acidic conditioner (as Joico cuticle sealer) to make your "color's life" longer.
