Hair Color & Treatments / Straighteners & Relaxers

What it is:
Pravana Keratin Fusion is the next generation in straightening and texture control.

What it does:
It leaves the hair smoother and more manageable and this is the ideal service for someone who would like to reduce curl and frizz but would like to retain some wave and movement.

What else you need to know:
This service is for someone who, along with reducing the curl and frizz, would like to wear their hair straight all the time.

Ingredients listed in kit.

  • Shampoo hair with Pravana Sulfate-Free Clarifying Shampoo and rinse and thoroughly towel dry.
  • Comb the hair straight and remove all tangles and part into (4) sections.

    Apply Reforming Lotion:

  • Mix Keratin Fusion Reforming Lotion with 1/2 of the contents (5 ml) of the Keratin Fusion Restructurizing Serum.
  • Apply mixture to the hair using a tint brush, applying 1/4 inch from scalp to ends. Follow by combing the mixture through the hair using a wide-toothed tint comb. Move the hair in several different sweeping motions, periodically lifting the hair away from the scalp and constantly changing direction. Maintain a gentle but firm tension as you comb. Be careful not to pack the hair down onto the head. To do so may lead to breakage. Apply to hairline hair last.

  • Begin processing time once the Reforming lotion is completely applied throughout the hair. Refer to carton insert directions for specific processing times. Note - It is important to process in a warm room with a temperature of at least 70º F.

    Determine if Processing is Complete:

  • Choose a strand of hair from a resistant area (nape or other resistant area). Tie a simple knot in strand and pull tight. Hold knotted strand between thumb and forefinger of each hand, 1-2 inches away from each side of knot and push strand towards knot. If knot loosens continue processing. Check every 5 minutes on different resistant areas until knot remains tight. When processing is complete, rinse the hair for at least 3 minutes.

    Thermal Straightening:

  • Spray Keratin Fusion Thermal Insulator onto the hair. Pre-heat ceramic flat iron.
  • Place client under a warm hooded dryer to remove at least 90% of the moisture. If a hooded dryer is not available, blow dry using fingers to lift and separate as you dry the hair, making sure the hair is smooth.
  • Taking 1/4″ partings hold the hair directly out form the scalp. Place the flat iron approximately 1/8″ from the scalp.
  • Straighten the hair nearest the scalp using quick short strokes to minimize the steam created. Continue to iron the hair with smooth long strokes for the mid shaft and ends of the hair. Hair is sufficiently ironed when it is smooth and shiny.

    Re-bonding and Finishing the Hair:

  • Apply the Keratin Fusion Bonding Lotion using a tint brush and continually comb the hair smooth and flat for the entire (5 minute) processing time. When processing is complete, thoroughly Rinse with warm water for at least 3 minutes.
  • Lightly mist the hair with Keratin Fusion Thermal Insulator and style as desired.
  • Client should not shampoo their hair for 48 hours.

    Stay away from this product!
I am a professional licensed cosmetologist. I had this done to my hair. My hair is ALMOST shoulder length, after trying to grow out a pixie cut. Well... now my once shiny hair is frizzy, broken and feels like straw, just in time for my vacation! No amount of hair oil could make my hair feel any better. After 6 years of having short hair, trying to grow my hair out... getting my hair to my shoulders was such a big accomplishment. I am beyond words. Go use GK smoothing treatment instead. its way better, and wont break all of your hair off.

    love it
I tried this product for the first time and love the results. I have virgin hair that is very thick and does not stand up to humidity and moisture. My stylist applied the system and rinsed thoroughly before blow-drying. The results are amazing. I can enjoy manageable lasting curls without a permanent. He insisted that I return in one week to wash with the Pavana keratin shampoo and conditioner. I will do so weekly as directed and only use keratin oils to moisturize. Each wash will gradually remove the application and return my hair to its natural state.
    ProsManageable, frizz free shiny hair
    ConsApplication has a unpleasant smell

    Very Drying
I was in love with my hair at first. It was smooth and straight and held up in humidity. One week later I had the WORST case of dandruff ever! It was like cradle-cap. It's been 5.5 weeks and my hair is very dry. It breaks when I brush it and the only way to control the dandruff is to use agean oil on the days I wash it. My hair dresser said that no one else has experienced the dandruff like me but there is no other reason for me to have it so badly.
ProsStraight hair, frizz free, great price.
ConsLong process, extreme dandruff afterwards, dry-brittle hair after.

if its not done correctly or by a professional...
Of coarse you're not going to like it and trust me there are a lot of stylists that have no idea what they're talking about or doing! Beauty school is a joke unless you're actually smart (90% of them aren't) so take it from a licensed Cosmo that uses it herself don't do it on yourself and make sure you use a stylist that is smarter then a squirell and you're hair will look amazing afterwards!
ProsThe hair you've always dreamed of!
ConsStupid people that can't read the box clearly stating FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY or stupid stylists that create a bad name for it due to inability to read or follow instructions.

    Not again!
My stylist recommend this for me. I have a natural wave in my long, blonde hair. He gave me a new cut and said this would tame my natural frizz. I have really think hair so the process took forever. First washed out color, blew dry partially then added the Pravana product, finished drying, flat ironed then rinsed again. WEIRD then blew dry again and styled. OMG took forever and when I washed my hair three days later the smell was so strong I thought I would hurl. My husband could smell the odor when he came in the bedroom and I was in the bathroom towel drying. It got a little better when I dried it. I couldn't stand the smell, like bad egg salad or sulfur, very permy. I called my stylist he told me a few things to try and nothing has help. I even rinsed with beer, vinegar, used baby shampoo, rinsed for 15 full minutes and today my head still smells like a dog fart. I will never ever do this again. I had to put my hair in a bun to sleep because my husband doesn't want his face near my head. PLUS my hair feels heavy and has a strange texture. I truly noticed absolutely no difference in my hair. I could just do a nice blowout with a flatiron and gloss spray. My guy refunded my money and said he has not heard of anything like this from his other clients, but he just started using it recently. I bet he gets more complaints going forward.
    ProsNothing at all
ConsThe horrendous smell, takes way too long to apply, no results.

    Time-consuming but total love!
This product definitely did not give my mad curls a pin-straight look. It did dramatically loosen them, though. I found that the kit was plentiful, and I had enough for two applications. Although I have done many other chemical processes to my hair including a temporary curl remover, various keratin straightening treatments, and color, this process did not damage my hair greatly. Though I must add that my hair tends t be extremely resilient. Would re-purchase!
